As for many creatives, global events of 20/21 had made them rethink their practice; when the whole world stood still, I decided to return to Latvia after 16 years of life in Manchester, England. I swapped a hectic metropolitan life for a quiet rural one, governed by nature's rhythms. Back home, I had both the opportunity and the obligation to care for the grandparents' land and forests. However, I always had an earnest wish to explore a new culture. And there it was: neighbouring Estonia, which is endlessly fascinating to me as it is so close but so different: in culture, folklore and language. Now I reside between Latvia and Estonia, pursuing research in understanding ecosystems and our role in managing them. In 2024, I completed a 2-year MSc in Landscape Architecture, earning an Outstanding Student Award from ECLAS, and am now a PhD student in the Environmental Protection and Landscape Management Chair at the Estonian University of Life Sciences.
I hold MA degree in Art and Design, graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University 2014. Started creative education with an Illustrator and Animator BA degree 2010. Telling a visual story is an important aspect of my creativity.
After University co-founded Collective North, which had curated multiple events in relation to the Dada art movement. Plus worked as a freelance textile artist and a versatile seamstress, specialising in different kinds of sewing from intricate puppet-making and costume design, focusing on ways to collaborate and encourage creativity through public workshops.
After an apprenticeship with a traditional English wood-craftsman, I became a professional seamstress for yurt-covers. 6 years as yurt maker sparked an interest in permaculture design, because when working in building we are manipulating nature for human benefit and with craftsmanship one is ought to restore the ecosystem for better and not just take away from nature’s yield.
